Birth certificates must show sex at birth
Oklahoma birth certificates must list sex as male or female based on biological sex at birth. They cannot show gender identity, a nonbinary label, or the letter "X". This applies to original, amended, delayed, and new certificates, including those after adoption or legitimation. The State Department of Health enforces this rule.
Law takes effect immediately on approval
The law takes effect as soon as it is approved. State agencies and the public must follow the new rules right away. Any changes that help some people start now, and any new limits also start now.
