New grants support Oklahoma ALS families

Oklahoma's health department runs the new Barbara Weber ALS Grant Program for ALS research and support programs. Support programs must help Oklahoma residents with ALS or Oklahoma residents caring for a family member with ALS. A new fund holds money designated for the program from state funding, donations, grants, and other sources. The department can spend this money on the program and carry unused money across budget years. The law sets no funding or grant amounts and guarantees no household an award. Starting July 1, 2026, annual reports to the Governor and legislative leaders must list grant counts, recipients, and funded purposes. The law lists July 1, 2025, as its effective date; its emergency clause also states immediate effect upon passage and approval.
