New penalties for easement gate users

Beginning November 1, 2025, Oklahoma law requires people entering through gates used to access easement property to maintain each gate’s position. Violations are misdemeanors, with penalties upon conviction. A first offense carries up to $500 in fines, up to 90 days in county jail, or both. A second offense carries up to $1,000 in fines, up to 180 days in county jail, or both. A third or later offense carries up to $1,500 in fines, up to one year in county jail, or both. Convicted people are also liable for damages, in addition to these penalties. The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food, and Forestry must issue rules to carry out the law.
