Beginning November 1, 2025, Oklahoma law bans knowingly or intentionally making, importing, distributing, selling, offering, installing, or reinstalling unsafe replacement crash-protection parts. It covers airbags and the parts needed for them to work properly in a crash. Banned replacements include counterfeit parts bearing a manufacturer's or supplier's brand without permission. The ban also covers nonworking airbags and substitute objects not designed to meet federal safety rules for the vehicle's make, model, and year. Nonworking airbags include deployed or damaged airbags, deceptive substitutes, and airbags barred from sale or lease under federal law. They also include airbags with electrical faults detected after installation is complete and ownership is transferred or intended to be transferred. Violators face punishment under Oklahoma's existing motor vehicle penalty law.
