Earlier sentence reviews with notice deadlines

Beginning November 1, 2025, eligible people can request a sentence review one year before the usual five-year mark. This option requires earning a high school diploma or equivalent, college degree, or vocational or career training credential while serving the sentence, or keeping consistent employment throughout probation. The person must also finish probation requirements, have no criminal violations or pending revocation hearings, and face no district attorney objection. Written notice must be given to the appropriate district attorney within 15 days after filing the request. The district attorney has 45 days after receiving notice to respond or object and can request one 15-day extension.
