The law keeps Oklahoma’s optometry board active until July 1, 2031, replacing its July 1, 2026 end date. This continues state oversight of optometry licenses and practice. The board has four licensed optometrists and one member who is not an optometrist. Optometrist members must meet Oklahoma residency requirements, have at least five years of practice, and understand theoretical and practical optics. The law specifies five-year terms for licensed members, with one appointed each year. The non-optometrist member’s term matches the Governor’s term, and the Governor can remove that member. The Governor fills expired terms and vacancies; replacements for vacancies serve only the remaining term. The act takes effect upon passage and approval under an emergency clause; the amended provisions take effect July 1, 2026.
