Oklahoma Veterans Affairs temporary jobs lack benefits

Beginning November 1, 2026, seasonal and project (PRN) workers at the Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs lose key benefits. They do not get paid leave or paid holidays. They also do not get retirement, health, dental, or life insurance. These jobs are exempt from any laws that provide those benefits.

Oklahoma Veterans Affairs sets seasonal hiring rules

Beginning November 1, 2026, the Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs can hire seasonal workers all year. A seasonal worker is unclassified and works under 1,699 hours in any 12 months. Project or PRN jobs are also unclassified and last only as long as the project. This can open more short-term jobs, but standard state benefits do not apply to these roles. Each year, the Department must report how many project workers it used and the total wages.
