Extra sales pay for Oklahoma tourism employees

Beginning November 1, 2026, Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department employees can earn sales commissions in addition to regular pay. Qualifying sales include advertising, sponsorships, bulk subscriptions, newsstand sales, and related products for Department publications or tourism promotions. This includes Oklahoma Today Magazine and other print or digital publications. The Executive Director decides whether to award commissions and sets the rate, capped at 25% of net sales. Payments are monthly, based on money collected from the employee’s sales. Base salary plus commissions cannot exceed 95% of the Executive Director’s salary.

Oklahoma Today publishing and public access rules

Beginning November 1, 2026, the law creates an Oklahoma Today Magazine division within the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department. The division may handle publishing the magazine at least six times a year and may sell advertising. The appropriate division director must approve ads before acceptance. Advertising sales and rate negotiations are exempt from Oklahoma’s central purchasing and administrative procedure laws. Magazine articles and photographs must be available for public inspection during Department business hours. The Department need not provide copies or allow copying beyond magazine copies offered through newsstand and subscription sales.
