Easier school enrollment for military families
The law lets dependent children of active‑duty service members, including Guard or Reserve on orders, enroll in any Oklahoma district. Schools must treat these students as district residents for enrollment, even before the family moves. Districts must accept online enrollment, program selection, and course registration. Parents must provide Oklahoma residence proof within 10 days after the published arrival date. Acceptable proofs include on‑base billeting, a bought or leased home or apartment, or federal/public‑private off‑base military housing. “Military installation” includes DoD or Coast Guard bases, posts, stations, and homeports. The law is in effect now.
Special education continues after military moves
Schools cannot deny or delay enrollment because a transferring military child has an IEP, IFSP, or a 504 plan. The new district must move records, honor prior evaluations, do any needed evaluations, and hold meetings. It must set up comparable services and accommodations before the student’s first day in Oklahoma.
