Licensed directors can lead funeral businesses

Beginning November 1, 2026, funeral service establishments, commercial embalming establishments, and crematories in Oklahoma can name a licensed funeral director as the funeral director in charge. An embalmer license is not required for that role. Embalmers who are not also licensed as funeral directors cannot serve in this position. The person in charge is responsible for the legal and ethical operation and is accountable to the Oklahoma Funeral Board.
