Oklahoma launches nuclear power study

The law orders the Corporation Commission to start a nuclear power feasibility study. It must begin hiring a well‑established nuclear consultant within 90 days, using its expert‑witness process instead of normal state bidding. The study must cover pros and cons, costs, safety, designs and sites, environmental effects, small modular and microreactors, and ways to use Oklahoma workers and products. It must also map best locations, including near military bases for resiliency, and offer policy ideas and federal funding options. Utilities must share data, and the Commission must protect confidential information. The Commission must email findings to the Senate President Pro Tem, the House Speaker, and the Governor within nine months after the law takes effect. If it cannot hire a consultant, the Commission may run a notice of inquiry to gather input at lower cost. The act takes effect immediately, so all timelines start now.
