New fitness tests for Oklahoma students

Beginning November 1, 2026, Oklahoma's education department must set student fitness testing guidelines. They must follow recommendations from the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition. District testing starts after those recommendations and state guidelines are ready. Districts must use the Presidential Fitness Test or another nationally accepted testing program for school-aged children. Alternative programs must measure heart fitness, muscle strength and endurance, flexibility, and body composition. State guidelines must include staff training and exemptions for disabilities, medical conditions, or other factors affecting test completion. Parents and legal guardians can opt their student out. Districts must use results to promote the physical and mental benefits of daily movement and adjust student activity opportunities. They must also encourage physical activities inside and outside school. The State Board of Education can issue rules to carry out the law.
