College credit option for career credentials

The Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education can adopt rules allowing state-system colleges to award credit for career-test credentials and scores. In doing so, the Regents must consult the American Council on Education National Guide. The law does not require the Regents to adopt rules or colleges to award credit.

Free career tests for high schoolers

Starting in the 2026–2027 school year, Oklahoma must make career-readiness tests available to all public school districts. Districts decide whether to offer them. Participating districts must give each student in grades 10–12 who chooses testing at least one free opportunity before graduation. Students who meet the required skill level can earn a nationally recognized workplace credential. The tests measure applied math, workplace documents, graphic literacy, critical thinking, and leadership collaboration. They must use common standards, measure readiness for many jobs, and match research-based skill needs for specific industries and jobs. Both paper and computer versions must be available. The State Department of Education replaces the Department of Commerce as the lead approval agency, working with the Commission for Educational Quality and Accountability. The law removes the prior funding condition for approval and implementation. The act lists July 1, 2026, as its effective date, but also includes an emergency clause effective upon passage and approval.
