Required training for Oklahoma graduate student instructors

Oklahoma state-system colleges must establish and maintain formal training for graduate students serving as lead instructors in undergraduate courses. This covers both instructors of record and primary classroom instructors. Training must prepare them for teaching, classroom management, grading, student accommodations, academic honesty, and school, state, and federal policies. It must cover students’ First Amendment rights, including free speech, free inquiry, and fair treatment of different viewpoints. Training must stress that lawful expression cannot hurt students’ grades, participation, or evaluations. The law lists July 1, 2026, as its effective date, but also includes an emergency clause stating immediate effect upon passage and approval. It specifies no funding, penalties, or enforcement process.
