4 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 2 mixed.
Beginning July 1, 2026 (the 2026–2027 school year), certified school staff must be paid at least the new state minimum, counting salary plus fringe benefits. Pay rises with experience and higher degrees. For example, at 0 years: Bachelor’s at least $41,601; Doctorate $44,381. At 35 years: Bachelor’s at least $62,973; Doctorate $67,319. Fringe benefits can include retirement contributions, but not the state flexible benefit allowance. Districts must give 30 days’ written notice if retirement benefits will lower cash pay below the schedule.
Starting July 1, 2026, the state minimum salary schedule does not cover certain administrative and supervisory jobs. Excluded roles include supervisors, school board and trustee members, commandant of cadets, deans, assistant or vice principals, assistant superintendents, executive assistants, CFOs, instructional and noninstructional program directors, managers, principals or heads of schools, chief executive officers, and heads of charter schools.
Oklahoma counts accredited out-of-state teaching toward certification and salary steps. Work at the Child Study Center also counts if you were an Oklahoma-certified teacher. If your teaching or certification documents are from another country and not in English, you must pay for an evaluation by an approved service.
The law is in effect now because of the emergency clause. The new minimum salary schedule applies beginning July 1, 2026, for the 2026–2027 school year.
