New foraging access with personal-use limits

Beginning November 1, 2025, Oklahoma law allows you to gather nuts, edible plants, and fungi on qualifying public land. This includes land owned or managed by the state, municipalities, or other local governments and designated for public use. You may take only what one person can eat in a few days, and you cannot sell it. Threatened or endangered plants are off-limits. So are crops certified by Oklahoma State University's Agricultural Experiment Station system or Cooperative Extension Service. State- or university-owned test and research farms are excluded. Certain land leased to private entities is excluded unless permission to forage is granted. Areas legally closed to public access are excluded, including land along public roads, law-enforcement facilities and training areas, and areas surrounding correctional facilities. After July 1, 2026, people lawfully on Wildlife Management Areas owned or managed by Oklahoma's wildlife department may also forage. That access is subject to authorization by the Oklahoma Wildlife Conservation Commission, which must adopt rules to carry out the law. Foragers are encouraged to wear clearly visible hunter orange and know which foods are safe to eat. Some edible plants and fungi require cooking for safety.
