Oklahoma airports get long-term planning rules

Beginning November 1, 2025, Oklahoma's Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics must adopt a five-year airport construction program each year. It must list available federal and state funding and include realistic project schedules. The Department must also regularly adopt a 20-year statewide plan for publicly owned airports open to the public. That plan identifies each airport's service level, role, and type. Planning must include public input and airport coordination, and construction priorities must follow the statewide plan and airport needs.

Airport funding requires inclusion in state plans

Beginning November 1, 2025, Oklahoma's Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics can fund only projects in its five-year airport construction program. The airport must also appear in the latest statewide airport system plan. Projects or airports missing from these plans are not eligible for Department financial help.
