New training rules for Oklahoma teacher candidates

Oklahoma's Commission for Educational Quality and Accountability must set student-teaching requirements for candidates in teacher-preparation programs it accredits. Requirements must include either a minimum number of weeks of field experience or completion of a qualified teacher registered apprenticeship. The apprenticeship must be job-embedded and competency-based, combining on-the-job training with academic instruction. The Commission must issue rules; the law does not specify the minimum number of weeks. The law lists July 1, 2025, as its effective date, but its emergency clause makes it effective upon passage and approval.
