The Food is Medicine Act authorizes Oklahoma Medicaid officials to seek needed federal approval for nutrition support coverage. Programs target members with nutrition-related chronic diseases to improve health and reduce medical care needs. Possible services include case management, nutrition counseling, meals, pantry stocking, nutrition prescriptions, and groceries. Officials and Medicaid contractors must favor community groups and local growers for nutrition prescription purchases wherever practical. Coverage depends on any required federal approval, and no benefit amount is guaranteed. The act lists July 1, 2025, as its effective date; its emergency clause also provides immediate effect upon passage and approval.
Oklahoma's education department must help schools that apply for grants under the Oklahoma Farm to School Program Act. The help covers grant applications and running programs that expand students' access to fresh, healthy food. Applying schools are not guaranteed a grant. The act lists July 1, 2025, as its effective date; its emergency clause also provides immediate effect upon passage and approval.
