New dyslexia-screening credentials for certified teachers

The law requires the Commission for Educational Quality and Accountability to create two micro-credentials for certified teachers. These cover Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT) certification and Center for Effective Reading Instruction (CERI) training. Both require at least a master’s degree, comprehensive therapy-level training, and passage of the matching competency exam. Teachers must also complete 28 days of instruction after passing the exam. Teachers earning either credential can screen students for dyslexia and identify its characteristics. The credential must appear on their teaching certificate. The law states a July 1, 2025 effective date, but also includes an emergency clause stating it takes effect upon passage and approval.
