The law sets clear proof rules to be treated as a person with a disability under Oregon wildlife laws. You can submit a note from a licensed doctor, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant stating a permanent condition: unable to walk without a brace, cane, crutch, prosthetic, wheelchair, scooter, or walker; severe lung disease (FEV1 under 35% or oxygen under 55 mm Hg at rest); heart limits in Class III or IV; a permanent impairment that stops you from holding or shooting a firearm or bow or from holding a fishing rod; or major vision loss (20/200 or less in the better eye, or visual field 20 degrees or less). Or you can show that your most recent VA or U.S. Armed Forces record rates you at least 65% disabled. For angling and shellfish rules, you may also qualify with a clinician’s note that an intellectual or developmental disability prevents you from holding or using gear like rods, reels, clam guns, or shovels. Give your written proof to the State Fish and Wildlife Commission.
