Age rules for private security workers

To work unarmed private security, you must be at least 18. To work armed private security, you must be at least 21. These age rules apply when you seek certification.

Criminal history blocks security certification

You cannot get or keep certification if you must register as a sex offender under Oregon law. The department will also list other crimes that require denial or revocation of a private security or instructor certification.

Training rules and credit for military, police

You must finish training approved by the Board on Public Safety Standards and Training to get certified. The Department of Public Safety Standards and Training can accept documented military training if it is substantially the same. The department will set rules to count prior law enforcement work. The rules will say who qualifies, what training can be replaced, and how to show skills.
