Cash held by a person in a correctional facility (like a prison or jail) now counts as contraband. Authorized cash in a work release facility is still allowed. “Custody” now means restraint by a police officer or a parole or probation officer under an arrest or court order, not being held in a prison, youth facility, or state hospital. More situations count as an unauthorized departure, including not returning after temporary or transitional leave, and some departures from youth facilities or state hospitals under a court order.
Beginning January 1, 2026, the Department of Transportation keeps a digital copy of the photo and signature on every driver’s license and ID card. Only law enforcement, parole and probation officers, and department employees doing official work can get these images. If you have an Oregon license or ID, your photo and signature are kept and shared only with these officials.
