New audit and posting dates for townships

Auditors must finish the annual audit by June 30 each year. By June 30, the auditors’ secretary files signed, sworn copies of the report with the township secretary, the county clerk of courts or prothonotary, the Department of Community Affairs, and the Department of Transportation. The township secretary publishes a short, audited financial summary in a local newspaper by July 15. The summary lists total assets, liabilities, net position, revenue, expenses, and changes in net position, and says where to see the full statements and auditor’s report. If the full statements and report are not printed, the township gives copies to the newspaper when asking to publish. A secretary who does not file or publish as required commits a summary offense. Effective 60 days after enactment.
