Kids gain coverage for mobile crisis care

Beginning January 1, 2026, covered Rhode Island health plans must cover mobile mental health crisis response and stabilization. This covers enrolled children and youth age 18 or younger during an acute mental health crisis. Services include rapid assessment and early intervention. The requirement applies to accident and sickness insurers, nonprofit hospital and medical service plans, and health maintenance organizations. Coverage must match other behavioral health services across care settings and delivery methods, even when billing codes differ.
