Protected funding for Tennessee development districts
Tennessee must budget $0.50 per resident each year for its nine development districts, supporting regional economic plans and related activities. The calculation uses the latest annual population estimate or more recent census count from the U.S. Census Bureau. Each district’s board-set assessment determines its annual state funding: 1–20 cents per resident brings $295,000; 21–30 cents brings $340,000; and 31 cents or more brings $370,000. The Department of Economic and Community Development works with districts to distribute remaining money based on population, counties served, and regional living costs. Funding cuts are allowed only alongside across-the-board percentage cuts affecting multiple state departments and agencies. The law took effect upon becoming law; household effects are indirect through district activities.

SB 2733, AN ACT to amend Chapter 33 of the Private Acts of 1985; as amended by Chapter 85 of the Private Acts of 2004; and any other acts amendatory thereto, relative to the City of Gleason.
