Student attendance subpoenas reach past school years
Beginning July 1, 2025, Tennessee law allows subpoenas for student attendance records in complaints or referrals under Section 49-6-3009. These subpoenas can cover every prior year the student attended a public school. They must follow the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act and other applicable privacy laws. The law creates no direct household payment or benefit.
