Police can take flippers or impound cars

If police find a license plate flipper on your car, they can seize the car as evidence or impound it. If you are present, the officer must let you remove the device right away if it can be done safely. The officer can tell you to move the car to a safe place for removal. If you remove it, police may take only the device. If your car is impounded, you must pay towing, impound, and reasonable removal costs.
