Veterans can move cases to nearby treatment court

You can ask to move your criminal case to a neighboring county’s veterans treatment court. That county must border yours and have at least 220,000 people under the 2020 federal census or a later census. The transfer is allowed only if that veterans court would have jurisdiction as if the offense happened there. You must file a written waiver accepting the transfer, and the other county’s district attorney must agree. A jury would still be from the county where the crime happened. The law takes effect immediately.
