Public workers gain private retirement plan information
Employers in the Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System must allow private providers to share information about alternative retirement plans and life contracts. Providers must share this information on the employer’s premises, outside employees’ official duty hours, through direct contact with their representatives. Alternative plans must be functionally equivalent to qualified retirement plans, including 401(a), 401(k), 403(a), 403(b), 408(k), 408(p), or 457(b) plans. Employees do not have to enroll, and employers do not have to endorse the plans. The law does not change existing retirement benefits, contributions, or costs. These rules took effect when the act became law.
