Employees and members can keep qualifying group health insurance through the month coverage ends and the next three months. You must have been continuously covered for at least three months immediately before coverage ends. Time under a replaced group policy with similar benefits counts. You must pay the full premium in advance each month, including the employer's usual share. This applies to group insurance that pays hospital, surgical, or major medical expenses—not disease-only or accidental-injury-only policies. Continuation is unavailable if the whole policy or your covered group ends, or you missed a required contribution. It is also unavailable if you are eligible for Medicare or similar group coverage replaces yours within 31 days. The rule applies to policies issued, renewed, or amended on or after the law took effect upon enactment.
Beginning July 1, 2026, Tennessee extends its portable-electronics insurance rules and enforcement to optical products. These include smart glasses, non-electronic eyewear, prescription and nonprescription eyeglasses, and sunglasses. The rules cover purchases, leases, and related service transactions. Vendors can bill and collect insurance charges, but must list charges separately when they are outside the purchase or lease price. Vendors must clearly disclose when insurance is included with a purchase or lease. The Commissioner of Commerce and Insurance has authority, effective upon enactment, to issue rules implementing the law.
