Certification and yearly training for private special deputies

Starting January 1, 2026, new private special deputies receive a compliance certificate from the Tennessee Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission. You must meet Tennessee's police officer job qualifications and complete an approved recruit training program. To keep the certificate, you must finish yearly in‑service training that matches your duties.
