School workers get new parental leave rules
Beginning July 1, 2025, Tennessee school boards and public charter governing bodies must adopt paid parental leave policies. Eligible employees must use their existing six work weeks of paid leave within 12 months of the qualifying event. Qualifying events are their child's birth or stillbirth, or adoption of a newly placed minor child. Employees can take leave in one stretch or separate blocks of at least one week. Exceptions to the one-stretch option require special circumstances approved by the school district or charter school director.
School funding threshold rises from 20 to 30
