Putnam County judges get matching pay rules

Beginning September 1, 2030, Putnam County General Sessions Court judges’ annual pay matches county circuit court judges and chancellors. Pay adjustments follow state law that day and each September 1 afterward, with payment in 12 equal installments. Current judges’ salaries cannot change before their elected terms end. The act requires approval by two-thirds of the county legislative body before the salary rules take effect. The presiding officer must announce approval or rejection and certify it to the Tennessee Secretary of State. The approval process takes effect when the act becomes law; other provisions require local approval. Conflicting county private-act provisions are repealed.
