Emergency responder rules now cover electrical linemen

Beginning July 1, 2026, the law defines an electrical lineman as someone who installs, maintains, or repairs power lines and works for a local government or its contractor. The same rules that apply to emergency responders now also apply to these electrical linemen. If you serve as both an emergency responder and an electrical lineman, you are covered as both.

Estates can appeal denied lineman claims

Beginning July 1, 2026, the estate of a deceased electrical lineman can ask the Tennessee Department of Finance and Administration to review a denied claim under this law. The estate must ask within 90 days of the denial. The department issues a final order that binds the state and sends copies to the estate and the department.
