Back-to-back sentences for crimes with multiple child victims

Beginning July 1, 2026, courts must run sentences back to back when a person is convicted of two or more crimes that involve more than one victim who is a minor. This applies even if the crimes happened in a single episode. A judge can allow overlapping sentences only if the judge finds, by a preponderance of the evidence, that back-to-back time is not warranted and not in the best interest of justice. The rule applies to offenses committed on or after July 1, 2026.
