Annual emergency training for local agencies

Starting July 1, 2026, every local emergency management agency must have all employees take TEMA training each year. The training covers Tennessee’s mutual aid law and the Interlocal Cooperation Act. Agencies must keep proof of completion in each employee’s personnel or training file. TEMA also records who finishes the training. Chiefs of police, sheriff, fire, public works, highway, utility, and city or county finance offices are encouraged to send staff. This encouragement applies only to entities that participate under the state mutual aid law.
