Annual TEMA training for local emergency staff

Beginning July 11, 2026, local emergency management agencies must require annual training for all employees. The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) provides the training. It covers the Mutual Aid and Emergency and Disaster Assistance Agreement Act of 2004 and the Interlocal Cooperation Act. Agencies must place proof of completion in each employee’s personnel or training file. TEMA also keeps official records of who finished. Chiefs of police, sheriff, fire, public works, highway, municipal utilities, and county or municipal finance offices are encouraged to designate staff for this training if they are participating governmental entities under Tennessee’s mutual aid law.
