Beginning in 2026-2027, every Tennessee public and charter school sets one day for K-12 Fourth of July lessons. District and charter leaders pick the day, ensure compliance, keep lessons aligned to state standards, and review materials over time. Lessons must fit each grade and cover the founding, break from Britain, the Declaration, the Constitution, and basic rights. K-5 learn the holiday meaning and symbols; 6-8 study causes and founding texts; 9-12 analyze founding texts and civic duties. Instruction must be nonpartisan and focus on facts and civic principles, not advocacy.
