Stronger contract protections for Medicaid nursing homes

Beginning July 1, 2026, TennCare managed care organizations cannot include terms allowing nursing home services to end without cause. This also bars terms allowing direct or indirect termination for convenience or without stated grounds, including involuntary non-renewal. Covered nursing homes must be state-licensed and certified by TennCare to provide Medicaid nursing facility services. The rule covers policies, plans, and contracts entered into, renewed, changed, or delivered on or after that date. TennCare, with the Department of Commerce and Insurance, must review and approve standard facility-contract templates for compliance. Voluntary withdrawals by providers are not covered.
