No-cause end to Medicaid nursing home contracts banned

Beginning July 1, 2026, TennCare managed care plans cannot end nursing home contracts without a stated reason. Contracts cannot allow ending a facility “for convenience” or with no cause. “Termination” does not include when a facility chooses to leave on its own. The TennCare bureau and the Department of Commerce and Insurance must approve standard contract templates to make sure they follow this rule. The rule applies to contracts entered into, renewed, amended, or delivered on or after July 1, 2026.
