Engineering technologists can become licensed engineers

The Board can start writing rules now. Beginning July 1, 2026, you can use a new path to a professional engineer license in Tennessee. You must have a four-year ABET ETAC engineering technology degree and be approved by the Board. You must submit three written references from engineers who are registered in Tennessee and in good standing. You must pass the NCEES FE exam to sit for the PE exam, and you must pass the PE exam. You must also show eight or more years of progressive engineering work under a licensed professional engineer. If you meet these steps and are otherwise qualified, the Board grants your license.
