Public colleges must keep some sports records confidential. Records about game or player integrity that are usually secret stay private. Commercial contracts made only for the athletics program are private if release could hurt a business’s edge. That contract secrecy ends on July 1, 2033. This rule applies even if other open-records laws say the records are public.
The law does not let private people sue over these college athletics records. Courts cannot grant damages or orders based only on this section. A business can still argue that release would harm its competitive advantage. This narrows who can bring legal challenges.
