Stronger insurance for delivery app drivers

Starting July 1, 2026, delivery apps must keep primary auto insurance when you are logged in or on a delivery. The policy must cover at least $50,000 per person, $100,000 per accident for injuries, and $25,000 for property damage. Coverage can come from your policy, the app’s policy, or both. If your policy lapses or is too low, the app’s insurer pays from the first dollar and defends you. The app’s coverage cannot wait for another insurer to deny a claim. This coverage counts toward Tennessee’s financial responsibility law during app-on or delivery time. Apps may buy coverage from authorized insurers or eligible surplus lines carriers.

Clear notices and roles for delivery drivers

Starting July 1, 2026, apps must give you a written notice of the insurance they provide and its limits before you accept delivery requests. The notice must say your own policy may not cover app-on or delivery time. The law defines who is a delivery driver, customer, and what counts as a delivery. It also says the app company is not the owner or operator of your vehicle.
