Voter portal can check immigration status

Tennessee’s voter eligibility portal can check immigration status through a federal system run by Homeland Security. It can use the SAVE program through a secure web service, but only if DHS-USCIS provides that access. Election officials use this data to verify who is eligible to register. Applicants, especially noncitizens, can have their immigration status checked during online registration. This change takes effect immediately.
