Teachers get more personal and sick leave

Beginning July 1, 2026, teachers earn personal and professional leave at two days for each half year worked (four days a year). Local school boards must set policies to provide this leave. The law also raises personal leave in state law from two days to four. Teachers earn one sick day for each month worked, capped at 8 days for 10‑month contracts, 9 for 11‑month, and 10 for 12‑month. You can move personal/professional leave into sick leave, and unused sick leave carries over.
