New rules to run for Millington office

To run for Mayor or Alderman, you must be a Tennessee qualified voter. You must also have lived in Millington for at least one year before the election. This rule applies only after the City approves it by a two-thirds vote and certifies it.

City approval needed before rule applies

The law applies in Millington only if the city’s legislative body approves it by a two-thirds vote. The presiding officer must announce the result and certify it to the Secretary of State. For the approval vote, the law is effective upon becoming law; other parts wait on that local approval.
