Dairy permits banned in tuberculosis-risk areas

The Texas Department of State Health Services cannot issue new cattle dairy farm permits in areas with bovine tuberculosis or high risk of infection. The Texas Animal Health Commission defines these areas by rule, based on evidence about how the disease spreads. The law takes effect immediately with approval from two-thirds of elected members in each legislative house. Otherwise, its effective date is September 1, 2025.
