Electronic file transfers for Texas family cases

The law covers Texas parent-child cases when an order transfers the court’s ongoing, exclusive authority over the case. It applies to transfer orders issued on or after September 1, 2025; earlier orders remain under the former law. The transferring clerk must send records electronically within 10 working days after the transfer order is signed. Instead of original papers, the clerk sends copies of pending case filings and any other documents a party specifically requests. The records must also include copies of every final order and the signed transfer order. The clerk must include a transfer certificate, a document index, and copies of those items from every previous transfer. A bill listing court costs already incurred must also be sent.
