Beginning September 1, 2025, the Texas Facilities Commission can transfer surplus state police vehicles and other law enforcement equipment. School districts in economically disadvantaged areas of Texas qualify. The commission must find that the transfer helps secure the international border and fight transnational crime. The commission and district must agree on a price or other consideration; transfers are not guaranteed. Districts can use the property only for law enforcement duties by peace officers, school resource officers, or security personnel covered by state education law. They cannot sell it until two years after receiving it.
