Beginning September 1, 2025, Texas law enforcement agencies can release videos requested under the Public Information Act without hiding license plate numbers. This applies to plate numbers seen or heard in videos the agencies obtain or keep. Those numbers are no longer confidential under the state's motor vehicle information privacy laws. Other legal exceptions can still limit disclosure. The change expands public access to recordings but reduces privacy protections for vehicle owners.
