Beginning September 1, 2025, Texas requires tax proof before subdivision or condominium maps, called plats, can be filed or recorded. This includes replats and amended versions. Each filing must include an original certificate from every taxing unit covering the property, showing no overdue property taxes. If a certificate omits the previous year, that taxing unit’s receipt must show that the previous year’s taxes were paid. The law removes the prior current-year tax receipt or statement requirement for filings after September 1. An exception covers subdivisions of property jointly inherited by multiple people through a will or inheritance. They must have approval to divide the property so each person gets a separate share and title. For both subdivisions and condominiums, an exception covers property a taxing unit acquired for public use through eminent domain or voluntary sale.
